beauty: feel unique beauty box

Although I have posted about different beauty boxes several times and done this comparative video, I have never posted about the Feel Unique box. This is the first box I have received by them, and it is the only box so far that I pay for. I decided to sign up since I love their online store and the brands they carry, and I was consistently impressed with the contents of their boxes from reading other blogs. They seem to have a steady quality and whilst they dont give away full size products, I think this keeps the subscribers happy in the long run because people dont rave or completely trash the box every month. Its good, and its samples, and the brands are good. Thats kind of what I expect from a box anyway. Its not to say I wouldn#39;t pay for any of the other boxes, I would, but I do receive them as PR samples so this is the one I opted to give my hard earned cash to so I could try it out.

diary: home sweet home

As some of you might know if you watch my vlog channel, Matt & I are planning to move in together. We are in the very early stages, trying to choose an area, working out our budgets and all that fun stuff, but we have started to collect a few things for when we do finally have a place. I think its nice to get little stuff together before you find somewhere, for practical reasons so you don't have a huge amount of things to buy your first month in the new place, for excitement, and also because the kind of style I like (eclectic and vintage looking) takes a bit of time to put together, collecting things here and there so it doesn't just look like you went to a supermarket and bought everything from one place.

diary: Lincolnshire photodiary

As I mentioned in my last post I'm in Lincolnshire at the moment on a little mini-break (Bridget Jones love) for Matt's birthday (today) and our six month anniversary (tomorrow) and we are having a lovely time...

beauty: introducing joliebox

I'm a little late posting this as I was away on holiday when a lot of people got their boxes, but I wanted to post anyway because I thought you guys might want my thoughts, and I'm pretty excited! I've always had a soft spot for...

fashion: all lace and secret places

I mentioned in my last post that I got a lace cardigan from Primark at the same time as the blue lace top. I think this was £8 again and although I love it, it is very flimsy and I'm scared I won't be able to wear it so much. I quite like it buttoned up as...

fashion: navy and maroon

Remember yesterday when I was discussing my love of lace and collars? I wasn't kidding. I picked this top up in Primark a couple of weeks ago on a whim, it was about...

fashion: i used to fly like peter pan

It seems like everything I've liked online or picked up in a shop recently is either made of lace has a peter pan collar (often both.) I tend to wear mainly dresses or skirts and blouses and collar detail is a cute way to...

aromatherapy associates overnight repair mask

After being impressed with my first foray into Aromatherapy Associates (the enrich hair oil) I was intrigued to try something else by the brand, this overnight anti-ageing mask. Let's just start by saying that this is not a budget product. At £46 it is definitely aimed at people that spend a lot on their facial skin care, and those interested in anti-ageing. It's interesting, if you'd asked me 5 years ago if I'd be willing to spend that much on a skin care product, I'd have said no, but at 26 I am a lot more understanding. Although I don't have any wrinkles yet to speak of, I'm very fastidious with daily SPF and I'm way more willing to spend more on good products.

That being said, good products come at all price ranges and the amount you spend doesn't always translate to a good product, so is this worth it? I used this on myself and my mum to give a better informed review. An overnight mask was something neither of us had used before but it definitely felt more luxurious than my regular night "cream" which is usually a hydrating oil. I used this at the end of a facial I did for my mum and I definitely felt a tightening effect as I applied it. When applied to my own skin I felt the surface of the skin tighten, but not uncomfortably. I felt like the surface of my skin felt firmer and yet not dried out like I usually feel with firming products. The firming effect diminished within 24 hours but I think this is a great mask that will help skin long term but provide an instant firming boost for an event. As always with masks, it's best to exfoliate the skin beforehand to maximise the effectiveness of the product (and to ensure it isn't just sitting on top of dead skin cells) - Bottom line? This isn't cheap, but if you don't mind spending a little on facial skincare and want a mask that will perk you up before an event, this is one to try.

yes to cucumbers facewipes

I should start this post by saying that I hate face wipes. I've never found any that effectively took my makeup off without leaving my eyes sore, my skin red and my paranoid mind seeing wrinkles forming before my eyes thanks to all the rubbing I'd subjected my skin to. I much prefer to use a balm or cream cleanser to remove all my makeup and when that isn't possible I'll take a micellar solution and a cotton pad over a face wipe any day. If I do make an emergency wipe purchase when staying over somewhere without cleanser or for travel I usually opt for the cheaper brands, mainly because I've tried some more "expensive" ones and found them just as dry, small and disappointing.

Before I put these wipes to the test, I was a little apprehensive. On one hand I was looking forward to trying something for the yes to cucumbers range but on the other hand I couldn't help but think as a wipe hater my review would be shamefully biased. Shockingly (especially for me) I was actually impressed. Over the last few weeks I've used these wipes to remove makeup and taken them on overnight stays. They are thicker than your average wipe and quite large so there is no issue removing makeup and they are also nicely moist negating the need to rub and irritate the skin. The cucumber cools and soothes the skin and doesn't have too overpowering a smell.

Normally when using these to remove makeup I cleanse afterwards but I have on occasion used only these and found no issues at all, my skin was clean and felt fresh. I also used a wipe as a makeshift muslin cloth when staying over at a friends house, rinsing it under the tap after removing makeup and using my cleanser with it. It stood up well and saved the day.

One other little tiny thing I like about these is the fact that when you pull one wipe out, the next one doesn't start making a bid for freedom too. That is something that has always bothered me about other wipes, it's only a tiny detail but the fact that you don't have to force the next wipe back inside the pack until next time is nice and makes me wonder why all companies can't do that!

I can't quite believe that I've managed to write so much about face wipes, but these really are quite nice. I was expecting them to be much more than the £4.99 price tag so that was a pleasant surprise. I'm still not a daily face wipe convert, but if I need some for emergency overnight stays, these will be my wipes of choice! Have you tried these? Do you like face wipes?

No7 fanomenal lashes mascara

I've been road testing the new No7 mascara, fanomenal lashes, which promises to give a fanned-out, full lash and has an innovative brush which can offer millions of different looks depending on how you twist and apply it. I saw the brush in person sans mascara on Wednesday but sadly my brush didn't photograph particularly well to show just how the brush looks. The design means you can get right to the roots of the lashes and as you can see from the photograph above, does give a nice fanned out effect.

It remained put on my lower lashline for me all day, and yet wasn't difficult to remove. In fact, I like this so much it's the only mascara I've brought on holiday with me (save for an old waterproof one for in the pool. If you like your lashes full I'd recommend this, and at £12.50 it's certainly cheaper than the YSL I usually opt for! Have you tried this yet? What do you think of No7 mascaras?

joliebox february 2012

This month's Joliebox has a little difference! I love the drawstring bag, good to use when you're travelling and marks them out as different in my opinion. This month I had a Macadamia Repair Mask, A Lavera Hand Cream, Jane Iredale Lip & Cheek Stain (smells delicious), Kimia Rejuvenating Facial System and Taaj Micellar Water. A good steady box with things I will no doubt use up.

I've always liked Joliebox and its previous incarnation Boudoir Prive for the luxury skincare items and more niche brands although I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea. What do you think of Joliebox and their new look?
