Olá from sunny Portugal! I’m here for two weeks and loving it so far. A lot of you seem to be Portuguese and asking where we are staying, we are staying in a tiny village in the Eastern Algarve area and renting a rural property there away from the main tourist areas, but we aren’t far from Tavira. I scheduled videos and blogposts for my holiday but left a couple of gaps in case I had internet and felt like saying hello, and today I wanted to say hello.
I thought I would show you my holiday beauty arsenal – the products I travel with to keep me happy (and healthy!) during my trip.
From left to right:
Sure Maximum Protection Deodorant - Yes, it’s a deodorant, but it’s really really good! I hesitated to pick this up because it costs a fiver, and I don’t know about you but if I spend a fiver on a deodorant I want my armpits to become gold-plated. Sadly, they aren’t, but they are really rather dry and sweat-free. I’ll take that.
Boots Repel – I never used to have this problem but in recent years I have become a prime target for mosquitos. They love me and they want me to know about it. I’m not too impressed with the idea of looking like a human voodoo doll, so I carry this. Don’t spray it in a tiny room, I learned the hard way.
Coola SPF30 Unscented Mineral Sunscreen Matte Finish Tint – You all know I love a good sunscreen. I get excited about facial sunscreen the same way 50 something men get excited about Jaguars. They get me going. This was a gift from my lovely friends Karena & Katrina so I’m not entirely sure where you’d get it in the UK but I intend to find out and purchase it as soon as this is done. This feels exactly like Benefit Porefessional on your skin, not like slimy sunscreen. I love it.
Ultrasun – Ultrasun is like sorcery and magic and witchcraft to me. You apply it once, 30 minutes before you go into the sun, and you’re set for the day even if you go into water. Now, the cynic (and suncare obsessive) in me was dubious, but it does really work. Of course, it isn’t sorcery and magic and witchcraft, it’s just a highly photostable formula that is very water resistant, but it’s really great. I have the shimmer version for body (hello Gemma Cullen), the anti-ageing formula for face (Cullen again it seems) and the lip formula because if you have ever burned your lips in the sun you’ll know that like Ouzo shots, you won’t do it again.
Aromatherapy Associates Revitalizing Face Oil – I love face oils on holiday because just before you crawl into bed at night, when your face is dried out like a Sunmaid raisin and all tight from the chlorine, they make you feel human. I like them at home of course, but on holiday they have that extra effect. This one smells amazing and makes my skin feel refreshed and pampered.
Yon-Ka Pamplemousse Cream – I have the dry skin version of this but there is an oily version, and I LOVE it. I got it in my Joliebox and will most certainly be buying more. It smells absolutely great and the citrusy refreshing scent is great for holidays. Very nourishing but sinks into skin quickly without making you greasy. Lovely.
L’Occitane Hydration Face Mist – Normally this would be my Caudalie Beauty Elixir, but I’ve run out yet again and put my foot down with myself this time. I’m not allowed to buy another until I’ve used up all the other fancy face mists I have. This is actually really lovely, and I think more people would like the scent than the Caudalie one. That will always be liquid crack to me, but this is really refreshing, smells lovely and keeps you cool in the sun.
Trevor Sorbie Humidity Control Spray – This is from the Beautifully Moisturised line, and I think is the hero product of the range. I’ve been letting my hair dry naturally on this holiday because really, who can be doing with a hairdryer in the heat and also, I’ve tried not to look into a mirror too much to be honest. This stops me looking like Monica during that unfortunate Friends episode. For that I am grateful.
Ojon Instant Restorative Hair Serum – I haven’t actually styled my hair once on this holiday, or worn makeup, but I have been scrunching this into my ends every evening after washing it to keep it hydrated and nourished. I’m a newbie to Ojon, any other products I should check out?
I’m nominated for two Cosmopolitan Blog Awards this year – If you’d like to support Gemsmaquillage by voting in the Established Beauty Blog and Video Blogger categories you can do so here.
