SILVES & MARKET FINDS
Yesterday we took a trip to Silves, part of the Faro district and the former capital of the Algarve. The region is full of history, it was taken over in the Umayyad conquest of Spain and has strong Moorish ties dating back to the Almohad dynasty. We visited in the daytime during festival time, and both the architecture and the street markets have a great feel, a real mix of Arabic and Portuguese styles. We took in the street markets, had a spot of lunch and visited Silves castle. I do love a good castle. I thought I’d share some snaps with you and a few of my purchases on the day.
Pouch/Coin Purse The photos don’t really capture the colour of this, a really pretty jade colour. I thought it would be useful for coins/sheets of ibuprofen/hair ties that usually end up sloshing around the bottom of my handbag like rogue synchronised swimmers.
Sandals These aren’t for me but a gift for my Mum who has confirmed via the magic of email that she loves them already. In the sunlight they glisten – she loves a bit of bling.
Hamsa & Evil Eye Bracelets Well isn’t this good – talk about efficiency! Not content with just a hamsa or an evil eye charm these bracelets have both, and I loved the colours.
Wristband This was on a stall near the cathedral, and it depicts the hail mary, bizarrely not in Portuguese but in Spanish. I’m not religious but I really loved it, so I bought it!
