BIRCHBOX UK?

So you may have heard the news that US beauty box giants Birchbox have acquired Joliebox UK. Beauty boxes are interesting to me, the concept, the battle for the market and the future of them is very compelling. I’ve reviewed Glossybox and Joliebox (previously Boudoir Prive) each month alongside some that fell along the wayside (here’s looking at you Feel Unique, Carmine) and I’m in a pretty unique position. I’m a consumer, a reviewer, and I know exactly what you guys like and dislike each month thanks to your tweets and comments, but I have also had a peek into the logistics and strategies of the boxes and companies themselves. I understand (and often share) a lot of the frustrations and wishes customers have when it comes to these services, but having had a glimpse into the day to day running of the boxes and the difficulties such a task throws up, I can see why they can’t always deliver what we want.

Birchbox coming to the UK will undoubtedly shake up the market, they have a huge team in the US that other boxes simply may not be able to compete with, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out. After meeting them at their press junket it seems they want to keep the feel of Joliebox UK and have even adopted certain elements like the magazine, but they do want the branding to change and are keen to really customise the boxes and create a huge e-commerce presence and social media experience. I’ve shown the contents of a Birchbox, a Joliebox from France and a UK Joliebox and talked a little bit more about what this might mean in the video below – enjoy!

I hope this means I can transfer my subscription over here now that I’ve moved to London…sure will beat having my mom send it each month and getting it a couple weeks after everyone back home!

I’ve always been really happy with my Birchboxes…it is disappointing when they feature some products in the video or on the blog and you see one you’d love to try and then don’t get it, but once I try the products I’m always satisfied (even if I don’t like a particular product, at least I got to try it).

  2. WOW that is so exciting :)

That was a really interesting post :-)

I thought that Joliebox was *awful* this month – the worst one I’ve had and I’ve been with them since the very beginning (as Boudoir Prive). It was very like the Birchbox that you opened and if they stay at that quality I will unsub pretty swiftly.

I think they have to be careful – it feels like the enthusiasm for beauty boxes is waning at the same rate that the quality has dropped. I thought that Joliebox would be the one sub that I held onto but am not so sure anymore. I ditched Glossybox due to the vast differences between boxes (and patchy customer service). For me, the equality of the boxes is one of the biggest advantages/selling points of Joliebox. I understand that the logistics of supplying the same samples to everyone may be complex, but isn’t that what we are paying them for? I’m sorry if this sounds overly negative but I love Joliebox and was utterly disappointed in them this month and fear this will be the new standard after yet another merger. No amount of clever branding will cover a box with shoddy samples (the hair ties are already frayed and I have to keep retying them). The contents this month barely came up to the cost of the box and it didn’t feel well thought out at all.

Finally, She Said Beauty have already built an online community so I don’t think there is anything particularly innovative about Birchbox trying to do the same.

I will watch with interest but I’ll vote with my pounds pretty quickly if Joliebox/Birchbox carry on like this month…

Just a heads up — Birchbox isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I ended up getting rid of it after 3 months because compared to Glossybox and Sample Society here in the US it’s totally terrible.

THAT SAID, Birchbox Man is absolutely wonderful if you have a guy in your life! x

If you had to recommend a beauty box for someone who has never tried them which brand would you recommend? I’m trying to decide which one to subscribe to :/ xx

Hopefully they’ll be better than Glossybox! Glossybox offers the most disappointing service I’ve ever known. Surprised they have any subscribers left to be honest..

Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword….wait there’s even more Now what if i told you there was a simple WordPress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That’s right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin
