Last week I hotfooted it down to the Diptyque store to check out their festive offerings for 2012, and also, truth be told, to see what all the fuss was about. I know it seems like every blogger and their dog is burning a Diptyque candle as if the world will end otherwise, but I have to confess that I was a Diptyque virgin. I’m a fan of soy candles so I haven’t yet ventured into any of their stores, thinking it just wouldn’t be for me, but, well, I am happy to admit I was wrong.
What I like about Diptyque is that the scents are earthy, woody, and luxurious. I love a sweet cookie-scented candle, don’t get me wrong, but you can pick those up anywhere, and to me, if you’re going to be spending Diptyque amounts of money you want something that isn’t offered elsewhere. I fell in love with so many scents and also discovered their fragrance selection, which again, is unique and sophisticated. May have to drop a few Christmas hints to santa!
The Christmas collection is named “Tales of the Arabian nights” and contains three scents, Amber Oud (pictured, and my personal pick), Sapin Doré, and Oliban, and all of these can be purchased in a full size for £45 or a smaller size for £25. The packaging is festive without being tacky, and I love the box within a box, perfect for a gift. Of course, I couldn’t leave without picking up a regular candle, purely for testing purposes of course (always a bloggers justification!) and I chose Opopanax, which according to the official description has “resin and balsamic notes” but to my (clearly less sophisticated!) nose it smells warm and cinnamony.
