The month of April has been one of discovery (more on that in a tick) and one of absolute gut-wrenching shock and disappointment. No, I’m not talking about the fact that JLS are no more, but the fact that Sally Hansen, to the best of my knowledge, DOES NOT AND NEVER HAS NEVER EXISTED. I’ll let you sit back and take that in for a moment. Shocking. In the UK we are only just getting the full ‘Sally’ treatment with colours and collections, but ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper I remember my Mum always buying the growth products and I myself have turned to Sally on many dark days when I picked off a gel manicure and left my nails looking quite frankly, ravaged. I had a vision of her in my mind (she was blonde, FYI) and only recently when I was tweeting Victoria did it occur to me that I’d never seen this fabled woman of magnificent nail fame. I did a quick google image search and saw only bottles of polish. Not insane, I thought, since the woman does own a nail company, but I delved deeper and found this. I was crestfallen! I tweeted about this and to my relief you guys were just as distraught so I feel a little less silly, but yeah. To me she will always be the Oprah of polish.
Anyhow, amateur sleuthing aside, whoever Sally may be to us, she does make a cracking top coat. Now, I’m going to confess something here – I’ve never tried the original Seche Vite. I have gone through several bottles of their UV topcoat (which is great) and only recently did I realise I didn’t have anything for the days when I don’t have a UV lamp at my disposal. I’m a self-confessed manicure-wrecker, and Matt (cruelly) laughs at me whenever I end up smudging a just-finished manicure because this happens pretty much every time. Sally has changed all that, ladies and gents. Now, thanks to your rather vocal instagram comments I get that some people are just die-hard Seche Vite fans and think it’s way better than Sally’s offering. Personally, I have no desire to try it now, which I’m relieved about since that formula does come with some health warnings, and Sally, as far as I know, is A-OK in that department. For one, this is cheaper, and whilst lots of you have been telling me it goes gloopy about half way through and needs to be thrown away, I’m pretty sure Seche Vite does too. It’s not often a beauty product changes your life, but seriously guys…
