It’s no secret that Birchbox is my favourite of the subscription box services. I am already drowning in beauty products, but if I were to subscribe to a box, it would be Birchbox. The brands they include are right on my wavelength, I love the addition of lifestyle extras, and their branding always appealed to me. Well, that branding has been given an overhaul, and I’m really, really impressed.
When I first heard they were giving Birchbox a makeover, I wondered why. I loved the original branding and as a human being, change is sometimes hard! Having seen the new tweaks however, I think it’s perfect. Birchbox was never overly feminine in a fussy way, the drawstring bag, a throwback to the Joliebox days, is far more useful to me than mounds of shredded tissue paper. I throw jewellery, charger cabes and underwear in these when I travel and they are perfect for housing any potentially-leaky minis in a gym bag. The new logo is bold, modern, and I think will catch the eye of more women who might not think they want to pamper themselves. The natural colours with a hint of neon is appealing but not OMG girly. I can see this appealing to way more people. After all, we all need to wash our hair and moisturise. Smart move, Birchbox.
Branding aside, it’s what’s inside that counts, so here’s how this month’s box (Festival Chic) measures up:
Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle – Exclusive to Birchbox, this is a nicely scented detangler that adds shine, and also protects from UVA rays and heat. Sounds promising, and I always love to try a new brand.
Color Club Wanderlust Collection - Again a Birchbox exclusive, I got the colour Reign in Spain, which is a gorgeous summer orange. More on this collection in a bit!
Coola Classic face SPF 30 Cucumber - I am so excited to see this! Last year I got a package from my lovely friends Karena & Katrina from Tone it Up and they sent me the matte version of this sunscreen. It was amazing and definitely on my list to buy this year when I run out of my current one, so this will be great to try.
ModelCo Eye Define Eye Pencil - I have to admit that for some reason ModelCo has never been a brand that appealed to me. I’m never one to pass up a handy liner though, and I love the sharpener on the end. This is suitable for sensitive eyes and is marketed as giving a budge-proof finish once it’s set. Looking forward to putting it to the test in the London sunshine!
Noble Isle Bath & Shower Gel - Last year I groaned at the number of body products in beauty boxes, but I took a (different) Noble Isle mini away with me when Matt recorded his album last summer. I wasn’t expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised and it was a godsend in a sweaty studio full of boys. Definitely a brand I mentally bookmarked so I’m excited to try this different scent.
Wild Trail Bar – I love the inclusion of lifestyle bits, and I can’t wait to try this veggie/vegan bar.
I love this box and I like the inclusion of the little postcards of places Birchbox trades. I also, as always, like the magazine, which I read cover to cover unlike some free publications. I mentioned the Color Club collaboration earlier on in this post, which is an exclusive collaboration between the brand and Birchbox. The Wanderlust collection is available exclusively from the Birchbox online store, and contains four ‘neon pastel’ shades, each of which represent a country Birchbox is present in. My personal favourite is Mod in Manhattan, the off-white shade, and I love the idea of having Birchbox-only shades and collections.
Are you a fan of Birchbox? Which is your favourite shade of these polishes?
