This is my go-to smoothie, and the one I always gravitate towards when I want a quick fix. It doesn’t contain any tropical, unusual combinations but instead calls for items I always have on hand. I pretty much always stash a bag of frozen berries in my freezer as they come in handy for so many things, from oatmeal, to pancakes, my berry cooler and of course smoothies. I love fresh berries but their frozen counterparts contain all the same nutrients, are often friendlier to the wallet, and stay fresh for ages, not to mention they totally negate the need for ice so no more watered down smoothies. The ones I use for this are the forest fruits variety.
The only other ingredients you’ll need are a banana, some water and a lemon. This is optional but I like to use the banana frozen too. I always have chopped up banana lurking in the freezer for vegan “ice cream” and shakes, smoothies and frappucinos as they again not only cool the drink but take on a creamy texture when blended. Depending on how you like your smoothies you can either add the whole banana (makes it nice and filling!) or make someone else a smoothie/use half a banana if you like it thinner.
I’m not one for measurements when it comes to these things, so I throw in a handful of berries, the juice and flesh of half a lemon, and my banana, top it off with water and blend. Once it’s smooth you can decide if you need to add more berries or water to get the consistency just right for you. The lemon makes it so refreshing and counteracts any heavy banana taste so if you’re not a fan of banana you won’t taste it at all. I always go back to this simple recipe especially in the summer months!
