When summer rolls around I love experimenting with drinks, and since I’m always looking for healthier alternatives to fizzy, sugary beverages, sparkling ones are always top of my to-do list. I’d seen watermelon drinks all over Pinterest, but I decided to give it a twist with some fresh lime. Yesterday Matt and I went to Broadway Market with Estée and Aslan. It was a hot summers day and by the time we got back we were all in need of something cold and refreshing. This hit the spot and as day turned to night I may or may not have added some Sloe Gin. It goes perfectly with this drink!
What you’ll need:
Sweetener of choice – eg agave, stevia, sugar.
First off you need to slice open your watermelon and scoop out all of the flesh. A lot of other recipes tell you to remove the seeds, but ain’t nobody got time for that! We just blended them right up and didn’t have any problems, but if you want you can remove them.
Place your watermelon in the blender or food processor and blend that baby until smooth.
You’ll be left with a slightly frothy liquid like this. The froth might not be incredibly pretty but it’s better than drinking synthetic watermelon flavoured water. We can deal with a little froth. If it bothers you or you’re serving it to people as guests you can always strain it through a coffee filter but again, ain’t nobody got time for that! At this point we juiced two limes and added them to the mixture, and we sweetened with a little agave nectar but this is optional!
Fill your glasses with ice and sparkling water. We found that half and half was the best ratio in the end.
Top off with your watermelon-lime mixture and enjoy!
Like I said these tasted delicious alone and with sloe gin! The perfect summer drink!
