As many of you know, the past few months have been incredibly stressful, and our lives have been completely turned upside down. Not only does this mean we are living out of boxes, staying with family members and our schedules are completely messed up but it has also taken it’s toll on my health and fitness. My weight is something that is always in the forefront of my mind, and it’s something I struggle with daily, always trying to be healthier and lose a few lbs, but when I get stressed, I eat. Some people lose their appetite, some people find theirs, and I’m definitely someone who falls into the latter category. All my usual health foods are packed up in boxes, my food processor is in storage, and it seems like my will to eat well is packed up along with them. When times get tough and your routine is shot to pieces, it’s important not to beat yourself up about it, but it’s also important to realise when it’s time to take back a bit of control.
Yes, it’s been a tough time and yes it’s okay to let go a bit, but I think it’s also really important to realise when you are eating to make yourself feel better, and making yourself feel worse in the process. I’ve known for over a month that I’d gained back a lot of the weight I lost, and that I felt bloated and uncomfortable, but I pushed the thoughts to the back of my mind and carried on eating crap essentially, skipping meals and then stuffing my face and hardly exercising. Things are starting to look up for us and we have found a wonderful house that we will hopefully have the keys to in the next month. With job changes, accommodation changes, and life changes, it’s felt like we don’t have any kind of constant in our lives. Pete passed away, Matt’s sister is in hospital, we moved out of our home and out of London, we are packing bags every couple of weeks, Matt doesn’t have work right now and my parents are moving overseas. Just one of those things would stress me out but the combination has been deadly on my diet and health. As a blogger, particularly one that blogs about health and wellbeing, you feel the pressure sometimes to only share the good stuff, so here’s me saying it’s hard sometimes, and it’s not always easy.
It’s not about punishing myself, but about realising when I’m making my life miserable and not taking care of myself. Nobody deserves that, and it’s time to change. I’ve noticed myself feeling uncomfortable when people try and take a photo of me, looking at it and feeling unhappy, and most of all not looking out for my own health. I don’t want this post to sound like I’m looking for sympathy, I’m not. What I’m trying to say is, life happens, and sometimes you need to take back the reins. Of the hundreds of thousands of people who read this website every month, so many of you will have been through similar, if not worse times recently, and I can bet that a high percentage of people reading this right now feel the same way I do. There’s something about the clean slate a new month brings that fills me with optimism and pushes me to make changes and it’s with that in mind that I want to start #awesomeaugust.
This month I am going to be uploading every day on my Health & Wellbeing channel which you can find here. Some of the videos will be edited/produced ones and some will be quick check-ins from my iPhone. I don’t have superfast internet right now and it’s completely unrealistic to think I can commit to extravagant content each day with a ten hour upload time, but a quick iPhone video to check in and share how my day went will only take ten minutes or so. I will be posting daily check-ins from Instagram (username gemsmaquillage) using the hashtag #awesomeaugust and I would absolutely love you to use it to. If you have a food diary, a motivational quote, a recipe or you just want to check in to let everyone know you’ve made the right choices that day you can use the hashtag and people can search and share ideas – hopefully it will be a great resource for us all and a source of motivation. I have also started a healthy living Tumblr which you can follow here. I wanted to be able to reblog inspirational quotes and images/without feeling like I’m overloading people who might not be interested, so if you’re in, make sure you’re following that!
I want to start the month off on the right note, and I hope you will join me! We all have the power each day to make the right choices, so without being too cheesy, here’s to us all having an #awesomeaugust.
