The original White Musk fragrance from The Body Shop is the stuff of teenage memories. I spent many a Saturday in town with my friends spritzing myself and spending my pocket money on lip balms, and one sniff of White Musk takes me back! Aside from being nostalgia-inducing, White Musk was a real landmark fragrance as one of the first man-made, cruelty-free musk scents. Prior to man-made versions real musk was extracted from the civet deer in a cruel and painful way, and whilst it is an incredibly difficult scent to recreate in a lab, a Nobel Prize was awarded to the team who finally cracked the problem.
In 2011 White Musk Libertine was launched to celebrate 30 years of White Musk, and this is one of my absolute favourites for daytime. When Leona Lewis launched her limited edition collection she had a pretty decorated bottle of White Musk Libertine, and the additions of Turkish delight and baby orchid make it playful and perfect for daytime.
Fast forward to 2013 and a bolder, more evening appropriate companion has arrived! With black rose, tobacco flower and immortelle flower accords this is a seductive and oriental scented offering perfect for winter. I’ve been wearing this on evenings out and on cold crisp days and it’s really lovely and a more adult offering for fans of the original fragrance. With the eau de toilette priced at £10 for 30ml and £13 for 30ml of the eau de parfum they are a bargain way to update your fragrance collections too.
